Chicago Tribune: Lead and crime

Submitted by Caroline J. Hanna
The research of Amherst faculty member Jessica Wolpaw Reyes ’94—which found a link between the nation’s phase-out of leaded gasoline and a decrease in crime rates from 1992 to 2002—was noted in an editorial that urged the Illinois legislature to pass an upcoming bill. Reyes and her work were also mentioned in a subsequent piece that criticized the state’s Senate for failing to address the act before its summer, as well as a Discovery News article.
