Want to make a difference after graduation, but not sure how? Interested in education, but not sure which path to take? Still don't have a job, and things are looking desperate? Then come to the Teach For America information session on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. in Paino Lecture Room!
Teach for America (TFA) is a national organization that recruits top college graduates to commit to teach for two years in some of our nation's highest-need and lowest-income regions to work relentlessly to level the playing field for their students. These teachers, whom we call corps members, then create an impassioned and reinformed generation of leaders who are dedicated to fighting against the multidimensional issue of the achievement gap-- through health care, law, policy making, social entrepreneurship, founding of nonprofits and continuing work as educators. We work in 46 regions across the country, both urban and rural, and corps members receive full salaries and benefits from their schools. Additionally, corps members can put any student loans into forbearance, meaning they don’t have to pay them until after the two years, and they also receive Americorps Educational awards to help pay off their loans or to be used for future educational purposes. Come to this information session to learn more about the organization and the application process before our second-to-last deadline on Jan. 11.
