Amherst College Madrigal Singers Perform Josquin's "Missa de Beata Virgine" ("Mass of the Blessed Virgin")
The Amherst College Madrigal Singers are performing a early 16th-century full mass titled "Missa de Beata Virgine," or "Mass of the Blessed Virgin," by the famous Renaissance composer Josquin Desprez (1450-1521) at the First Congregational Church of Amherst. Admission is free and open to all.
A student-directed a cappella group specializing in Renaissance vocal music, the Amherst College Madrigal Singers is part of the Amherst College Choral Society. In addition to concerts on the Amherst College campus, they perform annually at the Massachusetts Center for Renaissance Studies and the Northampton VA Hospital. In March 2012, they performed on a tour to Boston.
The First Congregational Church (165 Main Street, Amherst, Mass.) is located on the way from Amherst main campus to the Hill dorms. It is across Churchill Street from the Amherst Police Department and Main Street from The Evergreens of the Emily Dickinson Museum.
