Parallels Series: Gretchen Parlato, Jazz Vocalist

October 25, 2013 - 8:00 pm
Buckley Recital Hall

Multi-award-winning jazz vocalist Gretchen Parlato strikes a stunning balance between precision and flexibility. Parlato is widely acclaimed for blurring the lines between singer and instrumentalist as she takes lyrics-- or improvised flights of wordless fancy --to new heights. Her decorated recording career has served to complement her poised, effortless and graceful live performances. Parlato brings her quartet to Amherst for her Buckley Recital Hall debut.

“Her voice is a conflux where hope, sensuality and tragedy all merge.... [T]he most original jazz singer in a generation.” —The Boston Globe
