Frank Receives Literary Grant
Judith Frank, who has taught at Amherst since 1988 and been director of the Creative Writing Program, will use the $10,000 grant to help fund a one-year sabbatical, during which she hopes to complete her first novel, Crybaby Butch. A chapter of the novel appeared in The Massachusetts Review (Fall, 1999). A previous story, "Solace" was published in other voices (Spring 1989). She is also the author of Common Ground: Eighteenth-Century English Satiric Fiction and the Poor (1997). Frank received a B.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and M.F.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University.
The Astraea Foundation's Lesbian Writers' Fund was established in 1990 with the generous support of its founding donor, Joan Drury. The purpose of the fund is to support the work of emerging lesbian writers, and to acknowledge the contributions of established lesbian writers.
