AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst College’s annual Jazz@Schwemm’s performance series will kick off Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 9 p.m. with a gig by the Ecclectic Jazz Quartet (EJQ) and student combo The Reservior Cats. The performances—which feature Amherst undergraduates and local professionals—all take place on consecutive Tuesday evenings at 9 p.m. in the backroom of Schwemm’s Cafe in the college’s Keefe Campus Center. All events are free and open to the public.

In addition to EJQ and The Reservior Cates, this fall’s artists include:

•    Nov. 4 –  The Daniel McGeeney ’08 Group and student combo Black Coffee
•    Nov 11 – The Jason Robinson Trio and student combo AC
•    Nov. 18 – Ann Maggs, Amherst College music library specialist, with Freddie Bryant ’87, Andy Jaffe and Marty Jaffe

The Jazz@Schwemm’s series was originally a collaborative initiative of Alex Rodriguez ’06 and Dominic Poccia, professor of biology at Amherst. The goals of the program are to increase the presence of jazz on campus and to give students the chance to interact with performance as a backdrop to their other daily activities. Previous featured performers include Bruce Diehl, director of Amherst’s jazz program; EJQ; Ron Tiersky, professor of political science; Maggs; Rob Faulkner, professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst; and numerous student jazz combos.

All performances are open to the public at no charge.  For more information, contact Diehl at (413) 542-8308 or visit www.amherst.edu/~Jazz.
