AMHERST, Mass. – Allyson Moore, former director of the Career Development Office at Yale University’s School of Management, has been named Director of the Career Center and Associate Dean of Students at Amherst College. Moore started her new position this month.

With more than 15 years in recruitment and career development in academia and business, Moore has worked with thousands of students of many backgrounds to attain employment at a wide variety of organizations, from nonprofits to large corporations. She entered the profession at a time of significant growth in the importance and visibility of college and university career offices and has taken on positions of greater and greater responsibility within the field ever since.

“Helping our students find the right jobs and internships is one of our major priorities, and we are certain that Allyson, with her extensive background in career services, will forge many new relationships with potential employers, as well as cultivate Amherst’s existing links to companies, nonprofits and other organizations,” said Ben Lieber, dean of students. “We also expect that she will bring her extraordinary energy and initiative to bear on the office’s mission of educating students in the best ways to prepare themselves for their first jobs in addition to their long-term careers.”

“I’m definitely looking forward to coaching Amherst students along their journeys of exploration and assisting them in their efforts to identify the direction best suited to their individual interests, skills and passions,” said Moore. “I’m equally excited about enhancing the Career Center’s recruitment partnerships, expanding the study abroad program and securing more national fellowship recipients for the college.”

Before joining Yale’s senior staff in 2006, Moore served as the director of Full-Time MBA Career Services at New York University’s Stern School of Business. She was also a founding member of Stern’s Career Center for Working Professionals, providing career coaching and recruitment services to part-time MBAs, self-sponsored executive MBAs and MBA alumni. She currently serves as an elected board member of the MBA Career Services Council—which promotes the sharing of knowledge and best practices among MBA career service professionals—and is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the National Black MBA Association and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs.

Moore earned her B.A. from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and her M.S. from Columbia Journalism School. After several years as a reporter and before her appointment at NYU, she led university relations for the companies Warner-Lambert and Unilever.
