Campus Intranet Announcements, Events and e-Digest

Intranet announcements and events are included automatically in the e-Digest, which is e-mailed every Tuesday to all students, faculty and staff.

Note: Events should be submitted to the Event Calendar, not the Announcements page. For our purposes, an event is something that happens on campus at a particular date, time and place, such as a lecture, concert or club meeting. Announcements include, for example, campus health and safety updates, student job opportunities and calls for submissions to contests or publications.

The Office of Public Affairs tells the stories of Amherst College, providing the campus community, as well as prospective students, alumni and the public with a look at Amherst's vibrancy and excellence. This office chronicles the achievements of the college and its faculty, students and alumni through articles, images, video and multimedia content on the college's website, as well as in print publications, on social media platforms and through outreach to leading local, national and global media outlets.

Public Affairs prepares news for release to newspapers and other media, produces the college homepage, oversees the college’s sports information program and organizes college-wide events, including each year’s Commencement Weekend. Our projects include the college course catalog, Amherst magazine and recruiting publications used by the Admission Office. 

We create content — in words, photographs, audio and video formats — that highlights the excellence and uniqueness of Amherst College and its community. For example, In the Classroom features interesting courses, Nooks and Crannies explores out-of-the-way spots on campus and Campus Buzz reports on the events and happenings that make Amherst so distinctive.

Public Affairs also maintains the college’s official presence on various social media websites, including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr.

Event Planning

The Office of Public Affairs assists in the planning and publicity of major college events, and consults with departments and campus organizations to help with with their events. Photographic Services

The Office of Public Affairs provides coverage for major college events (Convocation, Commencement, etc.), the Amherst website and Amherst magazine. For departments or individuals seeking on-campus photographic coverage, the Office of Public Affairs offers several options.

Sports Information

The Sports Information office collects and disseminates information about intercollegiate athletics at Amherst. Sports Information Director Ben Badua covers athletic events, keeps necessary statistics and writes articles for the Athletics website, print programs and Amherst magazine.

Office Hours

The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m to 4 p.m. during the summer.
