Events Overview February through June, 2013

MAY-JUNE EVENTS:

Fill-a-Truck Drive. Form friendly competition among teams, join a ‘tabling’ group, or donate individually. We will be happy to accept non-perishable food items and school supplies. Drop-off sites include: Alumni Gym, Barrett Hall, Cadigan Center, Chapin Hall, College Hall, Converse, Fayerweather, Frost Library, Merrill Science, Ponty Pool, Pratt, Seelye Mudd and Smith House.

Be Counted  -- Register your donation to Campus Challenge-sponsored drives OR TO ANY organization addressing poverty and/or educational opportunity. Complete a participation form online at http://www.amherst.edu/go/campuschallenge. The form may be submitted anonymously. Bonus: every participation form is entered into a drawing for $200 to be made at the end of April, 2013. Even though our major drives this year were scheduled for spring, we made significant progress in the fall. We can reach our goals for the year. The Campus Challenge Committee invites you to join them in making positive expressions of ways that Amherst staff, faculty and students relate with neighbors.

April 17 Panel Discussion“Educational Inequality and Opportunity” with Barry O’Connell, Vanessa Fong, Ben Guest, Karen Sanchez-Eppler and Luca Grillo to be held April 17th at 4:00 pm in Paino, Beneski Museum of Natural History. Light refreshments will be served.

Growing a Giving Tree - Look forward to something fresh in April. We are planning a Giving Tree to benefit students at a local elementary school.

"An Unfinished Conversation" with Lee un Wah. February 12, 9 am-10 pm at UMass Amherst. Free but registration required. See Campus Challenge Calendar entry for details. "The Five College Diversity and Dialogue Initiatives Group is proud to announce An Unfinished Conversation, a new educational program de­signed by StirFry Seminars, to support diversity and cross-cultural communi­cation training initiatives across the Five Colleges. ... An Unfinished Conversation begins with an interactive morning Keynote. Following the keynote, students get one-on-one attention in our Student Dialogue Group. After lunch, faculty and staff get one-on-one support, learning to create culturally responsive classrooms and schools in our Faculty & Staff Training. The program concludes with a Community Film Showing & Diversity Dialogue, where participants will get the opportunity to view one of StirFry’s award-win­ning documentary films and to have an open and authentic diversity dialogue with the film’s Director, Lee Mun Wah."
