This course will focus on visiting people in the Valley who are trying to reconcile the need for sustainability with practices that work economically. While the focus will be on field trips to farms and forests in the Valley and conversations with local operators, we will try to put these businesses and their decision making processes into a global context as we work toward answering the most difficult question facing the world today: can the world's growing population be fed and housed sustainably?
