Davis Projects for Peace
Information Session: Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in Keefe Campus Center, Friedmann Room (2nd floor). (All Amherst College students are eligible to apply including seniors who would complete their projects after graduation).
Davis Projects for Peace is an initiative for all students at the Davis United World College Scholars Program partner schools to design grassroots projects for the summer—anywhere in the world—which promote peace and address the root causes of conflict among parties.
Davis Projects for Peace encourages applicants to use their creativity to design projects and employ innovative techniques for engaging project participants in ways that focus on conflict resolution, reconciliation, building understanding and breaking down barriers which cause conflict, and finding solutions for resolving conflict and maintaining peace. Through a competition on over 90 campuses, projects will be selected for funding at $10,000 each.
As a partner school, Amherst College students may apply for consideration.
The Amherst deadlines for Davis Projects for Peace are:
- Thursday, October 31 at 9:00 a.m.— A preliminary, two-paragraph project descripton and the name and contact information for a faculty reference is due. Submit this preliminary application on the Preliminary Project Overview page.
- Thursday, November 21 at 9:00 a.m. — Final projects applications are due for applicants invited to continue in the application process. One finalist and one alternate Amherst College project will be submitted to Davis Projects for Peace for consideration. Projects will be enacted during the summer of 2014.
