Previously Artistic Associate at Theatre Royal Stratford East, Poonam Brah has also directed for Soho Theatre New Writing Programme; Kali Theatre’s New Writing Festivals and as part of the Royal Court International Residency. Alongside her extensive new writing and devising experience; Poonam has worked on classical text for some of the country’s leading institutions: assisting Richard Jones on HOBSON’S CHOICE and Trevor Nunn on SKELLIG (both Young Vic); and Sean Holmes on JULIUS CAESAR for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Poonam was also a mentored young director during the RSC’s Collected Works season.
Further training includes the National Theatre Studio Directors Programme; and mentorships by directors Rufus Norris at Artsadmin; Katie Mitchell at the National Theatre Studio and Dominic Cooke at the Young Vic. She is also a member of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab, New York, through which she directed an experimental adaptation of ‘A TEMPORARY MATTER’ by Pulitzer prize winning novelist Jhumpha Lahiri. Poonam has a degree in Philosophy and Literature from the University of Warwick.
