Asian Americans

2018 Asian American Studies Working Group. Their activism helped spark these initiatives.

The Asian American Studies Initiatives Fund supports students, staff, alumni, and faculty pursuing research and activities focusing on the experiences of Asian Americans. The Fund is intended to provide support for such programming as speaker series, film festivals, art exhibits, or other activities to illustrate the richness of Asian American culture, instill pride in Asian American students and their culture, and engage Asian American alumni. Faculty seeking to include Asian American content in courses may apply for stipends up to $1500. Students may apply for support, including research and travel to conferences. The fund was established with a gift from Anthony Chan ’72 and is housed in the American Studies Department. The Department is charged with Asian American scholarship, teaching, and programming at Amherst College. Programming will commence in Spring 2022, with several significant events planned for the calendar year. Inquiries may be directed to Professor Robert T. Hayashi in the American Studies Department at rhayashi@amherst.edu.
