2019-2020 MAJORS DEADLINES

The american studies Department accepts all passing grades, including a grade of “P” obtained through selecting the FGO in courses taken during the Spring semester of 2020, and will count such passing grades towards completion of the american studies major.

SENIOR CAPSTONE AND THESIS DEADLINES
2019-20


In preparation of your capstone project or your honors thesis, please observe the following deadlines. If by the nature of your work you must deviate from the date for the submission of completed work, it is your responsibility to secure permission from your capstone/thesis advisor and the department chair. If you have questions about these deadlines, please discuss them with your advisor or with the Department Chair, Lisa Brooks (lbrooks@amherst.edu).

 

FIRST CHAPTER DRAFT DUE (THESIS)


April 7, 2020   -    FINAL THESIS DUE TO FACULTY ADVISOR

Students are responsible for delivering copies of their thesis to their advisor and readers. The Registrar’s Office has formatting and submission guidelines, including a mandatory cover sheet.

April 13-21, 2020   -    ORAL EXAMINATIONS

Oral examinations, each an hour long, will be scheduled, according to faculty and student availability.

May 1, 2020   -    FINAL THESIS DUE TO FACULTY ADVISOR

Note: for Spring 2020, please follow instructions from Karen Graves for uploading your thesis to an American Studies google drive, where it will be available to your advisor.

May 4-8, 2020   -    ORAL EXAMINATIONS

Oral examinations, each an hour long, will be scheduled, according to faculty and student availability.

Note: for Spring 2020, oral examinations will take place via Zoom.

May 15, 2020    -   FINAL SUBMISSION TO REGISTRAR AND DEPARTMENT OFFICE

Students will be responsible to incorporate the changes or corrections in their theses suggested during the oral examination and to submit final, corrected copies, both bound and electronic, to the Registrar’s office (the official college copy) and to the American Studies office.
 
Note: For Spring 2020, please follow instructions for final  submission provided by American Studies and the Registrar.
