Justin Kimball: Pieces of String
Justin Kimball, Associate Professor in the Department of Art & the History of Art signs his latest book Pieces of String - a compilation of photographs with an introduction by his brother, Douglas Kimball.
Justin traveled with Doug, an auctioneer, to the homes of people who had died, photographing furniture, clothing, religious items and other possessions. While his brother worked to sell the items, Kimball used his camera to explore the legacy of these people’s lives as evidenced by the ordinary: a note, a box of hair pins, a stain on a pillow. “The resulting photographs are my perception of what happened in those spaces: who lived there? What was hidden and what was seen?” Kimball wrote.
