Need for Teachers
Throughout North America there is a serious need for Latin educators. Each year, for lack of teachers, existing programs are canceled, thriving programs are prevented from expanding, and schools that want to add Latin to their curricular offerings are unable to do so. PromoteLatin.org is a cooperative effort with the American Classical League, the American Philological Association, and various regional and state classical organizations.

Milton Academy
Middle School Latin teacher (posted March 19, 2024)
Milton Academy is an independent college preparatory K–12 school, boarding and day in grades 9–12, located just south of Boston. The Middle School Latin teacher will foster a dynamic and inclusive learning environment focused on innovative teaching practices and student engagement. The individual is also expected to actively support students, creating a positive classroom environment, and adjust teaching methods to support diverse learning styles as needed. This role requires the development and ongoing review of curriculum and course materials. The successful candidate will create and implement a curriculum for 2-3 Middle School Latin courses and 1-2 Upper School classics courses emphasizing student engagement while fostering a deep appreciation for classical languages. Courses will range from introductory Latin and Greek to seminar-style literature electives.
Required: A bachelor’s degree in Latin/Greek/Classics or a related field
Preferred: A master’s degree in Latin/Greek/Classics or a related field
Required: A minimum of three years of p roven experience in teaching Latin/Greek/Classics curriculum at the middle school level
Preferred: Experience working in an independent middle school

Noble and Greenough School
Middle School English and Latin teacher (start date: late August 2024)
Founded in 1866, Noble and Greenough School is a non-sectarian, rigorous academic community in Dedham, Massachusetts dedicated to student growth and self-discovery. Noble seeks a teacher of both Latin and English for a full-time position centered in our Middle School division to begin in late August 2024. The successful candidate would be willing to teach classes across divisions (middle and upper school) but will have an interest in working with middle school (grades 7-8) learners. This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic department and a close-knit middle school division whose members are passionate about ideas, teaching practices, and developing positive student-teacher relationships. A strong academic background, a minimum of 1-3 years of teaching experience, and a commitment to ongoing growth in their classroom practice and curricular development are encouraged. A Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree with an appropriate focus is attractive. We set a premium on collaboration, collegiality, and flexibility. The Noble and Greenough School looks for multifaceted educators who are eager to contribute significantly to the life of the school in at least one non-academic area (for example, athletics, community service, admissions, or performing arts) outside of their teaching. Dana Hall School
Part-time Middle and Upper School Latin teacher (posted March 27, 2024)
Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts seeks candidates for the position of Middle and Upper School Latin Teacher (part-time) for the 2024-25 academic year. The individual in this position will be accountable for teaching four sections of introductory and advanced Latin courses to Middle School and Upper School students and contributing to the life of the school as member of the faculty. Successful candidates will value collaboration with colleagues, bring creativity and innovation to curriculum development, and deeply enjoy working with adolescents and supporting them in achieving high levels of interest and mastery in Latin. In addition, candidates must be creative, curious, kind, and detail-oriented with strong organizational, communication and executive skills. They should have an ability to work and multi-task effectively both independently and collaboratively in an active school environment, as well as possess a willingness to add value to all aspects of community life at the school. Further, they should be interested in using technology thoughtfully and creatively to enhance teaching and learning, as well have experience employing a variety of pedagogical approaches for different learning styles. Candidates must also have demonstrated experience with inclusive teaching practices, exhibit cross-cultural competencies, and exercise a commitment to equity and advancing the school’s mission. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree, at least 3-5 years of classroom teaching experience, and significant coursework in a relevant subject. This is a part-time position reporting to the Director of the Middle School and Director of the Upper School.

STA is the oldest teacher-placement service in America. We receive job listings from hundreds of PK-12 private schools around the South. Schools come to STA because they recognize the value of STA’s help in recruiting & screening talented candidates.
Certification is not required by private schools for most Latin teaching positions.
Requirements:
For most middle- and high-school Latin positions, a bachelor’s degree with a major in Latin or classical studies (or at least a minor in these fields) is essential, but teacher certification is not. Candidates should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Some positions require prior teaching experience.

Interested candidates should apply to Southern Teachers Agency. The process consists of completing an online application, sending a credentials file, and participating in a telephone interview. A formal language assessment will also be a part of the application process.
