Introduction to Philosophy

An examination of basic issues, problems, and arguments in philosophy, e.g., proofs for the existence of God, the nature of morality, free will and determinism, the relationship between the mind and the body, knowledge and the problem of skepticism. Discussions will take place in the context of readings from classical and contemporary philosophers. Two sections will be taught each semester. Each section limited to 25 students. First semester: Section 1. Keiter Visiting Professor Silverstein; Section 2: Visiting Lecturer Torre of University of Massachusetts. Second semester: Professor Kearns.
