GUIDE TO FORUMS

FORUMS ARE PLACES WHERE YOU CAN POST COMMENTS ON SPECIFIC ISSUES AND RESPOND TO THE COMMENTS OF OTHER STUDENTS.

   SOC 16 HAS THREE FORUMS:

(1) AGE AND VOTE.   For the first class (Jan. 25), please post a comment in response to the following prompt:

In the 2008 elections,  younger voters were more likely than others to vote for Barack Obama.  The president-to-be got 53% of the total popular vote, but 66% of voters ages 18 to 29, according to the The New York Times exit poll. http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/exit-polls.html

Why are younger voters more likely than older voters to vote Democratic?

(2) TENTATIVE PAPER TOPIC:  This forum is for Assignment #1, due by February 1.  Post a half-page statement of what you plan to study.   Give at least one other student feedback on her/his ideas.   Your ideas can be tentative, half thought out.  Just getting started is the most important thing right now.  Feel free to give feedback to others even after the Feb. 1 deadline.

(3) PROGRESS REPORTS:  This forum is for Assignment #5.  From March 29 to April 26, post two progress reports on the course website.  Give constructive feedback to at least one of your fellow students each time.
