Final exam

Submitted by Djordje Milicevic (inactive) on Wednesday, 12/29/2010, at 2:30 PM

The final exam scores are posted in the Gradebook, and model solutions are in the Solutions section. Scores 150 and above are A's, scores 100-149 are B's, and scores 80-99 are C's. (Two students scored above 200 for an A+.) These are letter grades for the exam only. I will assign your course letter grades as described in the course syllabus in the next couple of days and give them to the Registrar. You can pick up your graded final exam early in the Spring semester.

It has been a joy and a privilege teaching you this semester. You have all learned a lot. Have a great break, and may Math serve you well in your future endeavors!

There will be a Q&A session for the third midterm examination. It will be held in Seeley Mudd 207, on Friday, December 3, from 6:45-8:15PM. Seeley Mudd 207 is very close to the room where our class meets, to the right of the main entrance.

I encourage everyone to come and bring lots of questions! You can also learn a lot from thinking about other students' questions and a discussion that will follow them - so please come - but you will learn most if you practice for the test during this week and have your questions figured out on Friday!

Q&A session on September 29

Submitted by Djordje Milicevic (inactive) on Monday, 9/27/2010, at 3:32 PM

There will be a Q&A session for the first midterm examination. It will be held in Seeley Mudd 205, the room in which our class regularly meets, on Wednesday, September 29, from 5:30-7PM.

While attendance is optional, I would like to encourage everyone to come and participate as the Q&A sessions tend to work very well. You will learn most if you bring your own questions! You can also learn a lot from thinking about other students' questions and a discussion that will follow them. While we may review some material along the way, please note that this is not a structured review - your questions are essential.

Please understand this is just the final step in exam preparation - you must first work on your own. Then bring your questions, lots of them, and we'll figure them all out one by one!

Math Table every Wednesday

Submitted by Djordje Milicevic (inactive) on Tuesday, 9/14/2010, at 3:44 PM

There is a Math Table lunch every Wednesday! Math Table is a place where students talk with math professors about informal interests, goings-on on campus, course offerings, careers, etc. It's a fun way to get to know each other - stop by some time. The Math Table happens every Wednesday from 12-1PM in one of the Terrace rooms downstairs at the Valentine dining hall. Just get your lunch as usual and head downstairs to find the raucous math group.

The Math Table will also happen this Wednesday, September 15, during the all-campus picnic on Valentine Quad - we will reserve one of the picnic tables for this purpose.

    • Sundays, Ben Mears
    • Mondays and Wednesdays, Rose Weisshaar

Most of the time, tutors are working one-on-one with students. Tim has nine years of experience helping Amherst students master calculus! He is also available for appointments. More information about the Q-Center can be found here. Please make the best use of office hours and, if you need help when I'm not around, of the drop-in help at the Q Center to get all your questions answered!
