Fill in your Major Requirements Form Before Advising Week Starts

Before meeting with your advisor during Advising Week/Pre-registration, please make sure to fill in your Major Requirements Form INCLUDING the classes you are taking this semester. This will help you and your advisor plan and choose classes and track your path through the major.

You can access your Excel form at any time through the Google Drive home page, either from the “Gsuite” tool on the Amherst website or simply through the Google homepage. Your form will appear in your “Shared with me” drive and is easily found by searching for “Major Requirements” or your name.

You can view your transcript on ACData and fill out each of the sections on the form with information from your English classes. Either transfer what you have on the ACData transcript to the form or copy and paste the information from your transcript for each section. Your advisor will help you with questions about classes taken abroad or outside of the Amherst English department.

Alpha Delta Phi Fund & David P. Patchel Funding Applications Due

Support for senior projects is available from the Alpha Delta Phi Fund and the David P. Patchel Memorial Fund. The Alpha Delta Phi Fund is designed to support senior essay writing, special topics, and other comparable independent projects. Monies from the David P. Patchel Memorial Fund can be used for senior projects having to do with the moving image specifically, whether essays, theses, or production projects. Awards are intended for seniors who are working on projects that are integral to their coursework or are part of independent study for credit that is supervised and evaluated by a faculty member.

Senior Capstone Symposium 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Majors will present independent work, drawn from one of their 400-level seminars or from their senior theses at the Senior Capstone Symposium to fulfill the English Department requirement. The ten-minute presentations will be organized into panels. Majors must attend all symposia during their junior and senior years (unless studying abroad), present once, and participate in the conversations generated by the presentations.
