Due to a generous donation from an Environmental Studies alum, funds are now available to support students as they research or otherwise engage environmental issues at the College. Funds might be used to support honors thesis research, or independent research (with Amherst faculty, with 5-College faculty, or even with alumni) before senior year—for example, research that might evolve into an honors thesis. Funds might also be used to support an in-semester or summer internship, particularly with alumni. Finally, funds might be used by students in other ways to help build connections and community around environmental issues at the College and beyond.
The maximum award for in-semester funding is $1,000 per student, and the maximum award for summer support (internships or research) is $2,000, though higher amounts might be considered if international travel is involved. To apply for these funds please send to the ENST Chair (Joseph Moore: firstname.lastname@example.org) a brief proposal stating the requested amount and the use to which the funds will be put. The deadline for an Inter-term award is December 1st. The deadline for a Spring Semester award is January 15th. The deadline for summer support is March 1st. If you have questions, please contact either the ENST Chair (email@example.com) or Department Coordinator (Diane Hutton: firstname.lastname@example.org). We encourage you to apply!
