    • New Haven Food Policy Division Work Opportunity
      New Haven’s demographics, geography, and economy present both strengths and weaknesses to developing and advancing an equitable and just food system and food, farming, and land-use policies that support such a system. Selected students will join the Food Policy Division to conduct research across the intersection of urban agriculture, food insecurity / access, and health justice, with the goal of shifting decision-making power and resources directly to community members.

Summer Climate, Energy, and Equity Intern at the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative

The Green & Healthy Homes Initiative (GHHI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity with the vision of advancing the social determinants of health and racial equity through healthy housing. With an emphasis on black and brown communities, GHHI delivers improved health, economic and social outcomes. GHHI supports housing, environmental health, and energy efficiency services for families in communities around the country, as well as conducting direct services in Maryland. GHHI’s delivery model is based on its data- driven philosophy that public and private social investments are optimized and social program outcomes are maximized when the energy, health, and safety needs of an occupied home are addressed comprehensively, efficiently, and simultaneously. The Green Dean-Office of Sustainability is a full-time, one-year term position. Given Amherst’s distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
 
The Office of Sustainability provides a vast array of high impact, formative academic and applied student learning experiences focused on sustainability through our various student programs and partnerships within the local sustainability ecosystem. The office also supports faculty in their efforts to integrate sustainability into their curriculum and research. The office recognizes the intersections of sustainability with social justice and environmental justice, and strives to foster a more equitable world through its initiatives and programming.
 
The Green Dean will support the Director of the Amherst College Office of Sustainability by supporting student-facing programs and promoting awareness of the office’s mission and initiatives. The Green Dean will also support the Director to create opportunities, initiatives and programs for students to engage in scholarship focused on a just and sustainable future, building collaborative relationships that enhance teaching and experiential learning, communicating and engaging the community in sustainability initiatives and pushing the college forward in its efforts to become carbon neutral. Summer Fellowships in the Office of Sustainability - Join the sustainability office team!

The Office of Sustainability is hiring two student fellows to support the office this summer: an Outreach and Engagement Fellow and a Sustainability Programs Fellow. These are excellent opportunities for returning students seeking high-impact sustainability experiences. Fellows will work full-time for eight weeks on campus, from June 13 to August 5. The Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University REU program - Feb 1, 2022
This program has been remote the last two years but they are hoping to be back in person for 2022. The Evolution, Ecology, Environment (E3) REU is aimed at training highly motivated young scientists and preparing them for successful careers in the broad fields of evolution, ecology, and environmental biology. Students who are under-represented minorities, first generation college students or from small colleges are strongly encouraged to apply.
Research can be conducted in any host lab based in the OEB department, which covers a highly diverse array of topics. Applications for the 2022 E3 program will be accepted through the Leadership Alliance Program. Dates for Summer 2022: June 7 to August 13, 2022.
