We conduct almost all of our courses in French. These courses span literature and culture from the Middle Ages to the present, and they emphasize significant authors or problems rather than chronological surveys.
Advanced Intermediate French: Language and Literature
Survey the different genres of French literary and non-literary texts (significant short stories, poetry and films), review French grammar, and train in composition, conversation and listening comprehension.
Introduction to French Literature and Culture
Through class discussion, debates, and frequent short papers, students will develop effective skills in self-expression, analysis, and interpretation.
The Space In-Between: Writing Exile and Return in the Twentieth Century
Examine how the experiences of exile and return mark authors' relationship to writing: namely, how being suspended between two countries, languages and cultures, poets and writers form conceptions of space and time.
Fellowships and Awards
Learn about exchange fellowships available in Paris and Dijon, and about prizes awarded annually to French majors.
