2019-20 Honors Program

Please Note:
there will be other opportunities to submit requests during the 2019-20 year.

Gillett Request Form: 2019-20

There is some financial assistance available from the G. Forrest Gillett Fund in the History Department for carrying out thesis research. You should initially discuss whatever funding needs you might have with your thesis advisor (or, for juniors, your prospective thesis advisor).

Applications for funding from the Gillett Fund should be attached as a single PDF document via this form.

The application should contain the following:

  1. A brief summary of the thesis project
  2. A summary of how the requested funds will be spent to further the project
  3. A detailed budget

Your thesis advisor should also provide a brief supporting statement (this can be done via email to the ADC).

Requests for the following kinds of expenses will be considered: costs of travel, overnight accommodations, reproduction of primary sources, recording tapes, thumb drives, printing costs, etc. (The costs of expensive equipment are not usually considered for reimbursement.) Members of the department will consider all requests and will advise you as to whether your request has been granted and how much money is included in your grant. In order to be reimbursed, however, you must submit receipts to the History Department office.

The Gillett Fund ordinarily allows the department to reimburse students for relatively modest requests of less than $400. Requests for larger grants (if, for example, you need to travel abroad) should be directed either to the Office of the Provost and Dean of Faculty or to the Alpha Delta Phi Fund. You should note carefully the deadlines for the submission of applications for funding, and the kinds of supporting documents required. You may also combine funds received from the dean’s office with those received from the Gillett Fund.

For Honors students interested in funding upcoming thesis work, the request is due by 4:00 pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. (There will be more opportunities to submit requests during the 2019-20 academic year.)

Please email Carey Aubert, History's ADC, if you have questions or experience difficulty submitting this form.
