About the Amherst College Choral Society

Choral Society Logo The Amherst College Choral Society first began to materialize when the Glee Club was founded as an octet back in the spring of 1865. Today, Choral Society is made up of the 65 voice Glee Club, the Concert Choir, and the student-led Madrigal Singers. We have toured to over 60 countries, most recently to Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. We are directed by Dr. Arianne Abela and assistant conductor Gil Wermeling '19.

Interested in Joining Us? Vocal Placements Info:

Please email Gil Wermeling with any questions at gwermeling19@amherst.edu. We hold vocal placements at the beginning of each semester and take students from a wide range of singing backgrounds. Please prepare to sing a minute or so of a short song in any style, sung a cappella. You will sing some scales with Dr. Abela, and sing some ear exercises and sight-singing. If you have no experience in these areas, do not worry. Just come!
