Amherst College Celebrates the Holiday Season with Annual Christmas Vespers Dec. 2

AMHERST, Mass. — Amherst College will celebrate the 2012 holiday season with its annual Christmas Vespers on Sunday, Dec. 2. at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Johnson Chapel. Admission is free and the public is invited.
Mallorie Chernin, assisted by Jeremy Koo ’12, will direct the Choral Society. They will be joined by the Amherst College Madrigal Singers, directed by Lester Hu ’13 and Angelina Gomez ’13. Other musicians include the Amherst College Flute Choir, organist James Maes, and trumpeters Douglas Purcell and Mark Santolucito ’13. The congregation will be asked to join in the singing of traditional carols and the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’sMessiah. The lessons for this traditional festival of lessons and carols will be read by faculty, staff, students, and children of faculty and staff.
We encourage people to bring non-perishable food items or a financial donation for the Amherst Survival Center or the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
