The Amherst College Department of Music presents the Amherst Symphony VIVA VERDI! 200th Birthday Opera Gala Tribute to Giuseppe Verdi on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center at Amherst College. Tickets are required and may be purchased at the door; seating is by general admission.
If you know who Giuseppe Verdi was, you will not want to miss the ASO’s "Welcome to the Class of 2017!" concert, doubling this year as an opera gala. If you don’t know who Verdi was, here’s a chance to come discover why he was a hero of the revolution with a penchant for courtesans, whose operas brought a new passion-filled realism to the opera stage. The ASO’s 75-member orchestra under conductor Mark Swanson and assistant director Robert Flynn ’13 will perform arias, duets and orchestral excerpts from Verdi’s greatest operas including Nabucco, Macbeth, La Traviata, Don Carlo, Aida and Otello.
The ASO guest soloists are rising artists from Ohio State University School of Music Opera & Lyric Theatre.
Tickets may be purchased at the door only. Prices are $10 for the general public; $5 for senior citizens, children 12 and under and students with ID; and free for Amherst and Five College students with ID.
