AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College Department of Music will present “Birdsong,” an original composition for string quartet and electronics by Peter Jody ’14, and “Shore,” an original composition for string quartet by Abigail Gray ’14, on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center at Amherst College. The concert is free and open to the public; seating is by general admission.
Inspired by the work of Steve Reich, Olivier Messiaen, and J Dilla, “Birdsong” combines sampled birdsong with untreated acoustic string sounds, creating a unique sonic texture. “Shore” is composed of five movements – each one embodying a coastal location from the Gulf of Maine to the Mouth of the Hudson. Both string quartets will be performed by the Wisteria Quartet.
