The Amherst College Department of Music presents “Simply Grand,” a piano performance thesis by Albert Yu ‘15 on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 3 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center at Amherst College. The concert is free and open to the public; seating is by general admission.
Yu explores what it means for a piece to be difficult, whether it be of rapid, virtuosic runs or slow, sensitive expressivity, presenting works from a variety of styles: Beethoven’s Appassionata Sonata in F minor, Ravel’s "Jeux d'eau" and “Alborada del Gracioso” from Miroirs, Debussy’s preludes “Bruyères” and “Général Lavine - Excentric,” and finally, Chopin’s Ballade No. 4 in F minor. Total concert time approximately one hour.
