Keefe Campus Center, Schwemm's Backroom

Enjoy Music by Professor Ron Tiersky Trio and student combos Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants and Songs in the Key of Life.

Performances given by students and local professionals fall on four consecutive Wednesday evenings, at 9 p.m. in Schwemm’s Backroom, located in the Keefe Campus Center on the Amherst College Campus. Each performance is free and open to the public.

The series itself was a collaborative initiative of Alex Rodriguez ’07, Bruce Diehl and Professor Dominic Poccia (Biology). The goals were to increase the jazz presence on campus and give students the chance to interact with performance as a backdrop to their other normal daily activities. Past featured performers have included Professor Poccia’s Eclectic Jazz Quartet (EJQ), Professor Ron Tiersky (Political Science), Director of Jazz Performance Bruce Diehl, Ann Maggs (vocal jazz teacher at Amherst College), Professor Jason Robinson (Music) and UMass Professor Rob Faulkner (Economics), plus numerous student jazz combos.

Next upcoming performance:

Oct. 29: Secondary Messengers (featuring Professor Poccia) and student combos In Square Circle and Innervisions

All performances are free of charge. For more information, contact Bruce Diehl, (413) 542-8308.
