The Jazz Composers Colloquium continues with a presentation by guitarist and composer Joe Belmont on Thursday, March 12, at 4 p.m. in Room 3 of the Arms Music Center at Amherst College.

Organized by Assistant Professor of Music Jason Robinson, the Jazz Composers Colloquium is an ongoing series of presentations that features professional jazz composers discussing their music and artistic processes. For the 2014-2015 academic year, there are four events in total, two in each semester, all featuring members of the jazz instruction adjunct faculty of the Music Department. Each event is free and open to the public.

Guitarist Joe Belmont has released two compact discs of his own music, and produced and performed on numerous other recordings. He has played with worldbeat band Viva Quetzal for over 20 years, releasing three albums and touring extensively. He also plays and records with flutist Sarah Swersey in Duo Fusion. Belmont teaches on the performance instruction faculty at Amherst College, and as director of jazz at the Northampton Community Music Center. In 2013 he served as music director for the world premiere of Grammy and Tony winners Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik's play "Arms on Fire." He is currently writing music for his own Jazz Guitar Trio, and for Duo Fusion.
