Buckley Recital Hall, Arms Music Center

The Amherst College Department of Music presents To Survive, a senior honors organ recital by Obed Kwamena Amissah ’21. The concert is FREE and will be available on the department’s livestream website.

To Survive commemorates people who lost their lives through COVID-19 and those who face all forms of struggles in this life. It is intended as a message of hope for the future; as the famous quote goes, “'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'” (Jeremiah 29:11).

The repertoire comprises a delightful Bach sonata inscribing nostalgic stories on our mental sheets about the better past that transitions to Hindemith’s experience with the World Wars and Nazis and Mendelssohn’s musical interpretation of the psycho-spiritual struggle and quest for humanity’s liberation from temptations and forces.
