• Open to the Public

The Amherst College Department of Music presents an honors thesis in composition, "Atempause – Ein menschliches Requiem," by Andres De La Torre ’23E. The concert is FREE and open to the public; seating is by general admission.

As a fervent fan of narrative, emotional expression, and intensity in music, Andres endeavors to pay homage to the impassioned music of the Romantic Era with his own original work in the style. He owes his interest in the drama of music to the spectacles of Requiems past by the likes of Mozart, Brahms and Fauré. Andres thus explores the evocative power of Romantic music through the Requiem—a mass for the dead. Through his Neo-romantic Requiem, Andres creates an opportunity for the audience to consider its own connection to both death and life. "Atempause — Ein menschliches Requiem" acts as a sonoric safe-space for introspection in order to provide a point of comfort and catharsis.

PROGRAM: "Atempause — Ein menschliches Requiem" Movement I — Kyrie II — Gradual III — Libera me IV — Dies irae V — Pie Jesu
