About the Chorus

The Chorus is the only group in the Amherst College Choral Society comprised solely of treble voices (SSAA). The group in its formed back in the fall of 1979, five years after Amherst began admitting women to the college. They went on their first tour in 1984, travelling to Puerto Rico along with the rest of Choral Society, to perform Verdi's Requiem. Today, the group has around 30 members and we sing repertoire ranging from Renaissance motets to Bulgarian folk songs, to world premieres. Our 2018-2019 season features a collaboration and world premiere with singer/composer Shara Nova and a workshop with composer/conductor Kathleen Allan. At the end of the season we will be traveling with the rest of choral society to the Baltics for various performances in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, and to perform Stars in a masterclass with Ēriks Ešenvalds.
