Amherst Jazz Students to Perform in Frontroom. Vocal students of Ann Maggs, Piano students of Michele Feldheim, Guitarists studying with Joe Belmont, Saxophonists studying with Bruce Diehl, plus members of Music 35 (Jazz Improvisation/Theory) will perform in the Campus Center Frontroom on Sunday, December 9, 2001 at 2:30pm. Local Bassist Alec Darien and drummer John Fisher will anchor the rhythm section. Free admission! A great way to end the semester!

Feb. 20, 2002 - Amherst students Brett Brehm (Piano) and Brian Hochman (Saxophone) will perform as a duo in the Campus Center Frontroom on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002. Concert time is 8:00pm, and is free of charge. These two are freshly-returned to Amherst from a semester abroad in London. We look forward to hearing what they have cooked up!

March 27, 2002 - Jazz Piano Virtuoso Ekkehard Wolk to give Special Performance On Wednesday, March 27, 7:00pm in Buckley Recital Hall, Ekkehard Wolk will perform a concert titled "Great Jazz Composers". This free concert features Ekkehard, a fabulous pianist from Berlin, Germany. Check out this wonderful opportunity to hear some virtuosity on the keys! Wolk will also appear in a lecture/concert for the Birth of Bebop Class, 2:00-4:30pm in Arms Room 7, on March 26.

April 3, 2002 - As part of the UMASS Magic Triangle Jazz Concert series, the William Parker Ensemble performs the music of Curtis Mayfield in Buckley at 8:00pm. See our Jazz News note on the front page of the site for a link to the UMASS triangle series.

On Thursday, April 4, 2002, Claire Arenius brings to Buckley Auditorium her trio called C.E.T.(Eugene Uman on piano and Thomson Kneeland on bass) for an 8:00pm performance. Should be fresh!

April 5, 2002 - Jazz Clarinetist Eddie Daniels to appear at Amherst Friday, April 5, 2002, Jazz clarinetist Eddie Daniels will be at Amherst College to coach our combos. equally at home in the classical and jazz realms, Daniels brings a wealth of experience to our midst from 2:00-3:30pm, location tba.

April 6, 2002 - Amherst Jazz Ensemble to Perform at Williams Jazz Festival

On April 6, 2002, the Amherst Jazz Ensemble will perform and be adjudicated as part of the annual Williams College Jazz Festival. The performance time slot is 10:00am-11:00, immediately following a performance by the Smith College Jazz Ensemble, also directed by Bruce Diehl. Free admission to this event, and it is part of a weekend-long jazz extravaganza. The West-Coast based Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra will be the featured performing group.
