This student had a keen interest in jazz and composition. They completed twelve full courses, including an honors thesis, and eight half-courses, including a Special Topics course and several semesters of music lessons. Only eight courses are required for the major, so this student went above and beyond the requirement.

This student started out with classical flute lessons. They did seven full courses, including an honors thesis, and used their hall-course flute lessons to complete the eight-course major. As you can see, they had plenty of time for other coursework at the college.

This student began performing in the orchestra. (The same can be done with any of our choral or jazz ensembles as well.) They eventually discovered an interest in jazz guitar, a new instrument for them, and took lessons over multiple semesters. Note that they chose to do a second major seminar in place of an honors thesis.

    MUSI 499D

This student followed a variety of interests that culminated in an ambitious three-course composition thesis. Because the thesis included a chorus, the student took a semester of choral ensemble to support their work (in addition to the composition courses). They graduated with 13 full courses (five more than required) and two half-courses.
