APPLYING TO AMHERST?
We know many who read these pages will apply to Amherst College, and we encourage your use of the Arts Supplement. Ideally your materials would include short snippets of you performing in many different styles (even genres). For example, hearing you play in a ballad, medium swng, blues, up-tempo and Latin style is very useful for us. Compng musicians can display both improvisation and accompanying examples. Please label your materials as exactly as possible-including (where relevent) title and composer information. We have no preference for media type, but make sure there are no typos if you are submitting your files for our online viewing. Thanks-we look forward to hearing your supplements!
If you are interested in joining any Jazz@Amherst performance group, feel free to drop by during any of our scheduled rehearsal times. Also please email or call us regarding your interest. Prospective students should be sure to check our guidelines for admission.
What is Hip?
Be sure to check out the Amherst College Jazz Ensemble perform at the 2015 McBride '59 Commission Concert on February 21st at 8 pm! This year's featured composer, JC Sanford, will give a lecture on his piece "Trash Me Hamster," at 1:00pm on Friday, February 20th and perform with his Quartet following the ACJE performance.

If you have interest in our jazz program offerings please be in touch with Bruce Diehl or Professor Jason Robinson as you plan your visit. We will make every attempt to meet with you, but we do need some lead time to coordinate our calendars. Be in touch before locking in your own collegiate tours and we will look forward to sharing our school with you in person. Please see our "Prospective Student-Musicians" tab for more information.
