AMHERST, Mass. – The 2011-2012 Music at Amherst Parallels Series begins on Friday, Sept. 30, with a performance by electronic music duo Matmos in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center at Amherst College. Tickets are required and may be reserved by calling 413/542-2195 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org; seating is by general admission.
M.C. Schmidt and Drew Daniel combine to form Matmos. They create music from the sounds of objects, animals, people and actions. Matmos is emerging at the center of the experimental music scene. The duo straddles genre and defies traditional descriptions, enjoying collaborations with pop icon Bjork, the Kronos Quartet, and others. The Washington Post praises Matmos’ music saying, “It’s vivid, witty and intensely physical music and it’s giving the abstract and bloodless world of something it’s needed for a long time – a living pulse.”
The box office for this performance opens on Sept. 19. Ticket prices are $18 for the general public, $12 for senior citizens and $10 for students. Amherst College students can request free student rush tickets at the door beginning at 7 p.m. on the evening of the performance.
