Animal experimentation in the Neuroscience major
Two of the required courses for the Neuroscience major (Neuroscience 226 and Biology 301 or 351) have labs in which all students do experiments using anesthetized live animals (ranging from invertebrates to vertebrate mammals). The faculty in Neuroscience are committed to using accepted procedures so that animals do not experience pain or discomfort. We plan lab courses so that needless killing of animals is avoided. However, we want you to know before choosing Neuroscience as a major that you will be participating in experiments involving animals.
