2018 Interterm Courses

All majors are encouraged to partipate!

Interterm is the period between semesters in which unique on and off campus courses are offered in intensive formats to provide students with an alternative approach to learning.

Amherst faculty create interterm classes that are academically challenging and involve an experiential component. Most students who experience Interterm courses return for additional opportunities to enhance their experience.

Celestial Navigation

In this, the Department of Physics and Astronomy’s twelfth “Celestial Navigation” Interterm offering, we will study the history, theory, and technique of celestial navigation. Nathaniel Bowditch’s continuously updated two-century-old volume “The American Practical Navigator” will be our primary reference.
