Ryabovolova will be speaking on the national question in the Soviet Union and its successor states.
Ryabovolova is an interdisciplinary social scientist with a Ph.D. in communication and anthropology from UMass Amherst. Her dissertation explores the politics of history and memory in contemporary Russia, and she has published on the subject of digital media and contentious politics. She has also translated from English into Russian and back, including two novels published in Russia and the U.S. She holds a master's degree in communication from Washington State University and a bachelor's in foreign language teaching and translation from Kharkiv National University in Ukraine.
