The Spanish-language theme house, referred to as The Spanish House, is located in Newport, at the corner of Woodside Avenue and Route 9, one block West of College Hall. Newport is shared with the French House. Spanish House residents and guests are required to speak Spanish when they are in the house, but they may address the French House residents in any polite language. Students may live and prosper in the Spanish House even if their Spanish isn't perfect. Events include concerts, tertulia, dances, dinners, film screenings, and readings. Events are open to the entire College community and will be announced under News and Events and also in the Amherst Notes. Applications for Spanish House residency are processed early in March.
Applications submitted by Spanish majors are given first priority, then seniors. Applications from underclass students will be considered if there are rooms available.
