Auditions for Electra and Peerless, November 6 & 7

Joint auditions for two spring shows will be held on:

November 6 & 7, 2023 at 6:30 -- prompt!
in Studio 3 in Webster Hall

No preparation is needed, and all are welcome!  Just show up on either date at 6:30 to audition for both shows at the same time!

More information about the shows is below.  If you still have questions, please email either of the directors,
Caspian Rabaia (lrabaia24@amherst.edu), or Leland Culver (gculver24@amherst.edu).

The two shows are:

Electra by Sophocles, in an adaptation by Nick Payne, directed by Caspian Rabaia ' 24.
Performances will be Feb. 29, March 1 & 2, and rehearsals will begin in early January.

  • When a young Electra’s father is murdered by her mother, her world changes irrevocably. Ten years on, bound by grief and unwilling to forgive, Electra surrenders to an all-consuming desire for revenge that propels her towards a bloody and terrifying conclusion. This is a haunting new version by Nick Payne of Sophocles’ tragic masterpiece, Electra.

  • The play has a cast of 8 characters, with roles available for students of any background.

Peerless by Jiehae Park, directed by Leland Culver '24.
Performances will be April 4, 5 & 6, with rehearsals beginning in February at the start of the spring semester.

  • A rollercoaster of a play and a self-described “riff on Macbeth,” Peerless tells the story of twin sisters who have given their lives over to getting into The College, which only takes one student from their Nowheresville midwestern high school every year, without fail. When another student gets the spot that was destined to be theirs, the sisters hatch a very sinister plot indeed.
  • Peerless has a cast of seven character, played by five actors. The sisters, M and L, are East Asian; D is a white-passing Native American man (the actor for D will also play D's brother); B.F. (M's boyfriend) is Black, and Dirty Girl is White (the actor for Dirty Girl will also play Preppy Girl). We are seeking actors to fill all of these roles!

Webster Hall is at the southwest corner of the main quadrangle!  Go in through the right-hand door, and down the stairs to the lowest level.  Studio 3 will be on your left (Room G19).
