Post-graduate Fellowships

The Amherst College Fellowships are a collection of nearly 20 different funds established over the past 150 years by generous alumni donors of Amherst College. Amherst College seniors and recent alums who plan to attend graduate school in a field related to theater or dance are eligible to apply for The Roland Wood Fellowship and/or The Edward Poole Lay Fellowship. Fellowships are awarded annually to one or more promising graduates by recommendation of the Department for continued study in or of the field. The process is initiated by the senior student or graduate.  In the past, students have also proposed  educational projects other than formal graduate school for fellowship support.  Contact the Chair of theater and dance to discuss the possibilities.

Award amounts vary based on candidates' academic merit, financial need, available funds, and the size of the applicant pool. They may also vary from year to year. Typically, awards range from $3,000 to $5,000, but can be considerably more, depending on availability. Funds are to be used for tuition, fees, books, equipment required for courses, and other educational supplies and are not intended for room and board, travel, optional equipment, or any incidental expense.

Contact Christine Overstreet at coverstreet@amherst.edu with any questions. Applications and additional information are available on the AC Fellowship Overview webpage.
