Theater & Dance "NOVETO"

Taking inspiration from John Cage and Merce Cunningham, Peter Lobdell, Thom Haxo and Charles Ditto will collage their independent efforts. About three weeks before opening, the three strands-- music, digital imagery and text performed live --will meet and interact. NOVETO means that each artist is assured that his contributions will not be cut or directed. We will collage them to see what we have wrought.

Charles Ditto is a composer and multi-instrumentalist. He received a B.M. in composition from the University of Houston. In 1986, he established Ditto Records and Human Symphony Music, and he has produced eight albums of original music to date. He received an M.M. and D.M.A. in composition from the University of Texas at Austin. Ditto teaches at the School of Music at Texas State University in San Marcos. He has worked with Peter Lobdell for over 25 years.

Thom Haxo is presently teaching sculpture at Hampshire College. He has worked on set, puppet and mask design for the last 17 years as part of his sculptural and collaborative interests. Projects he has worked on include The Skriker, by Caryl Churchill; I Stand Before You Naked, by Joyce Carol Oates; and The Millennium Two-Step, a collaboration with Peter Lobdell and Charles Ditto.

Peter Lobdell is a senior resident artist in the Amherst College Department of Theater and Dance and is presently the department's chair. He has directed and/or performed on, off and off-off Broadway in New York, on national tours, at regional theaters and in international venues. Recently he directed the movement for Our Town at the Hartford Stage Company and the Alley Theatre in Houston. Lobdell has worked on seven projects with Ditto and Haxo.
