Emily and Sue, a new pop opera about the romantic relationship between the poet, Emily Dickinson, and her sister-in-law-to-be, Susan Gilbert, will be performed on Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3 at the Holden Theater. The 40-minute work was commissioned by Amherst College as part of its Bicentennial Celebration, and takes place the night before Susan is to wed Emily’s brother. During that night, Emily wrestles with her love for Sue, her poetic voices, and the impending dawn.
