Dominic L. Poccia, the Rufus Tyler Lincoln Professor of Biology, was special editor of a virtual symposium issue for the August issue of The Biological Bulletin entitled Cell Biology of Gametes and Embryos: Lessons from Marine Invertebrates, in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, MA

The Laboratory is an international center for biological and biomedical research, which publishes the Bulletin which itself was founded in 1897. His lab also contributed an original research paper to the symposium with student co-authors Alan Wang ’12, Aupola Kundu ’13 and Burr Fong ‘08.  Poccia has been a member of the journal’s editorial board since 2006. Its editor-in-chief is Amherst alumnus James Olds ‘78.

On May 17th, Poccia was featured soloist on baritone saxophone with the 65-piece La Forza Chamber Orchestra in Paradise Valley, AZ in a performance that included Frank Darmiento’s Concerto for Jazz Quintet and Orchestra.  Darmiento is a prize-winning composer, conductor, and trombonist from Scottsdale.  Poccia was joined by several Phoenix area Amherst alumni at a reception prior to the concert.
