Research and Travel Funds
Professional Travel Allowances
To support faculty scholarship across the board, the annual travel allowance for faculty to attend professional meetings has been increased from $1,000 to $1,500 year. The allowance is dispensed for the purposes described in the Handbook, namely for travel to professional meetings or for research purposes. This allowance is administered as flexibly as possible. Send forms directly to the Comptroller's Office for payment or reimbursement. All expenditures must be sent to the Comptroller's Office no later than July 7. Please note that funds cannot be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.
Small Grants for Faculty Research
Small grants of up to $1,000 are available to fund faculty research. Unlike the travel allowance, the small research grants are not automatic allocations. Grants are made by the Dean of the Faculty in response to a written request specifying the uses to which the research grant would be put. These grants are subject to availability of funds, and are not carried over from one year to the next. Please direct your written or email request to Marie Fowler, Office of the Dean of the Faculty. Please note that annual travel and research funds are fungible and may be used in the proporations that best supports each faculty members research and professional activities in a given year. Requests for research funds over $1,000 should be directed to the Faculty Research Award Program. The Librarian will do her best to meet bibliographical research needs through the Library and is ready to discuss these, especially with new faculty members. Individual faculty members who pay student assistants should be aware of College employment policies. All students who are to be paid through the College payroll should obtain Student Employment Authorization Forms from the Financial Aid Office, and rates must conform to College schedules.
