Amherst’s practice is not to give college (non-major) advisees to faculty members who are in their first year.  At the start of their second year, faculty are assigned college advisees.  In anticipation of that new responsibility, in the spring of a new faculty member’s first year, the provost’s office invites them to be mentored by a senior faculty member who is an experienced and successful advisor.  Interested new faculty members may sit in on one or two of the advising sessions that the other faculty member conducts during the advising weeks (in April and in November) and are invited to have a conversation about her or his approach to advising.  See the Advising Hub Page for additional information about advising.  Please contact Pawan Dhingra at pdhingra@amherst.edu if you have questions.
