Summer Science Program at Amherst College

For more than 30 years Amherst has offered a three-week Summer Science Program for a small group of incoming students with interests in medicine, biology, neuroscience or chemistry. Today it is part of the invitation-only Summer Bridge Program. Each participant has classes in Calculus with Professors Robert Benedetto, Danielle Benedetto and Gregory Call. Students study Biology and Chemistry, and work in science laboratories with Dr. Julie Emerson and Dr. Richmond Ampiah-Bonney of the biology and chemistry departments. Professor Jyl Gentzler in philosophy teaches a Bioethics and writing seminar. Two former Summer Bridge students offer support as tutors. Through this program, students get to know faculty mentors and receive academic advising in the pre-med track, math, and sciences.
